Do you think construction should resume on the CMP power line project?
New England Clean Energy Connect has been given the greenlight to restart construction of a controversial a 145-mile line following a court ruling.
The stalled electricity transmission line has been in limbo ever since petition drive a 2021 statewide referendum banning the project.
The Central Maine Power affiliate had argued that, despite the statewide vote, it had already undertaken significant project construction in good faith based on having the necessary state permits. A jury deliberating the case unanimously agreed that was the case. A NECEC spokesperson said the decision makes clear the project “may lawfully proceed,” and that it “remains the best way to bring low-cost renewable energy to Maine and New England while removing millions of metric tons of carbon from our atmosphere each year.”
