Richard E. Hachey

GARDINER – Richard E. Hachey (a.k.a. “Dick” or “Richie” if you knew him when he was a kid), passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2023 at the age of 81 in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law.

Known for his pragmatism, organizational skills, and fairness, he deeply respected everyone he met. People remember him for his work ethic, competitive nature, and love of games and cards. He was lucky enough to have played his last game with his granddaughter the night before his death.

He had many passions that he shared with friends and family. He loved history and travelled the U.S. extensively with his brothers, sons and nephews.

An avid golfer for 50-plus years, over the past 10 years you could usually find him on the golf course in Brunswick with the Dew Sweepers, Goats or Gang Busters.

He lived in Central Maine for most of his life, was a respected pharmacist for 40-plus years, and was particularly proud of the time he served on the Maine Board of Pharmacy.

He is survived by his wife, Mona Hachey of Gardiner, with whom he was happily married for 50-plus years; his daughter and her husband, Karen and Jean Gombault of Paris, France, his son and his wife, Mark and Hilary Hachey of Baltimore, Md., his son and wife, David and Erika Hachey of Pocatello, Idaho; four granddaughters, Olivia, Mallory, Claire and Charlotte; his brother, James E. Hachey of Farmingdale, and his brother, Steve and wife Eva Hachey of Gardiner; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

We are sure that Dicky is watching from the heavens, playing golf in the morning and Wizards the rest of the day, and eating his chocolate cream pie.

In the spring, a mass will be held at St. Joseph’s in Gardiner, where he was a lifelong member, followed by an open house.
