BELFAST — A new show at Waterfall Arts, “Midcoast UMVA Juried Winter Exhibition,” is scheduled be on view from Wednesday, Jan. 25, to Friday, Feb. 24, at 256 High St.

Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

An opening reception is set for 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

The exhibition will feature works chosen from submissions by members of the Midcoast Union of Maine Visual Artists, ranging from photography to painting to monoprints and mixed media work, according to a news release from Courtney Oldrin, marketing manager.

David Estey, a Maine abstract-expressionist painter whose work has been featured in 24 solo shows and in more than 100 group and juried exhibits, is the show judge.

“At the outset, we had decided I should be as inclusive as possible, to support submitting artists and encourage participation in the new UMVA Midcoast chapter,” said Estey. “Judging by the digital submissions, the resulting exhibit should be a surprisingly wide and perhaps little-known spectrum of esthetics, styles and artistic expression being created in the Midcoast area.”

The exhibition is the culmination of work undertaken in 2022 to relaunch the Midcoast Chapter of UMVA, after many years of dormancy. Additional shows are tentatively scheduled to take place in Waldoboro and Damariscotta later this year.
