Dolores O. Chandler

HALLOWELL – Dolores O. Chandler, 85, died peacefully at home on Jan. 17, 2023. She was born in Hallowell on July 8, 1937, daughter of Dorothy Pratt Tarzia and Angelo Tarzia.

Dolores graduated Hallowell High School in 1955. After two years of college, she started teaching all eight grades in a one room school house in Aurora, Maine. She later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine and continued teaching. In 1998 she retired after 28 years teaching mostly third and fourth grades in Whitefield, Maine.

Dolores was predeceased by her parents; and brother Wayne Whitehouse.

Dolores is survived by her husband James Chandler; two daughters Holly Hersey and Heidi Hamilton, a stepdaughter Susanne Chandler and husband George Crumley, a stepson Peter Chandler and husband Kirk Webber. She is also survived by four grandchildren Daniel Frappier, Heather Stone and husband Levi Stone, Anthony Frappier and fiancé Victoria Hobart, and Shannon Jagger and husband John Jagger. She also had eight great-grandchildren.

For many years, Dolores was a featured vocalist at area church services, she also sang in church choirs, weddings, and memorial services.

At the request of Dolores there will be no funeral. The family will have a private graveside service at the Hallowell Cemetery, next spring.

Dolores had many wonderful care givers, after falling in 2020. Special thanks go to Laura Gibbons for over two years of care, followed by Friends In-Home caregivers including Dawn Wallace, Tammy Rideout and Nancy Lawrence. Androscoggin Home Healthcare’s nursing services were provided as well, with daily visits by Crystal Olsen, RN.

Cremation arrangements are by Mid Maine Cremation Services, Waterville ME.
