WINTHROP – Shirley Hubley Kenney, 92, of East Winthrop passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2023, at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center in Winthrop. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Kenney. 

Shirley was born in Winthrop, Maine, 1930, to the late Percy and Stella Middleton Hubley. She attended Winthrop and Augusta schools. After graduating from Winthrop High School as class valedictorian in 1948, Shirley went on to Nasson College in Springvale, to study briefly. 

Shirley worked for Community Service Telephone Company for many years. After retiring from the telephone company, she continued working for the State of Maine and later L.L. Bean.

Shirley was a talented seamstress, and in later years became deeply involved in researching the Hubley family genealogy with her brother Ben.

Shirley leaves behind her three daughters; Beth and spouse Crawford Kus of Windham, Janice Libby of Dallas, Texas, Margaret Libby and partner Harlan Bailey of Oakland, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers, Benjamin, Leslie, and Cecil Hubley, and sister Carole Small.

Funeral services and burial for Shirley will be private.
