Sharon Lee

SEBRING, Fla. – Sharon Lee, 71, of Sebring, Fla., passed away comfortably at home on Jan. 13, 2023, after bravely battling brain cancer.

Sharon was born on Oct. 18, 1951, in Waterville to the late Harvey and Ophelia Hunter. She grew up in Clinton but considered many places home in the towns of Presque Isle and Waterville. After Sharon graduated Lawrence High School in 1970, she went on to study English at the University of Maine Presque Isle, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1974.

Sharon began her career as the high school English teacher at Washburn High School. It was also at this time she met and married her husband, William Lee Jr. on May 25, 1974. Very soon after Sharon and Bill decided to start a family in Presque Isle with the births of their sons Jamie and Ryan.

Sharon and her family moved to Waterville where she continued her career as an English teacher at Waterville Senior High School and later as an employee with KVCAP. She was grateful for this period in her life because it was closer to where her siblings and their families lived, who brought her so much joy.

Sharon was a great mother but was an even better grandmother when it came to her grandchildren Hunter and Mason. Her many photo albums documenting almost every month and year of their lives demonstrated just how important they were to her.

Sharon loved to travel, going on numerous trips, cruises and adventures with her husband Bill. It was on these trips that she revealed how much she enjoyed art by purchasing paintings from wherever she returned from.

Sharon retired with her husband Bill in 2019, and promptly became snowbirds in the close-nit community of Tanglewood in Sebring, Fla. This was truly her happy place where she learned that she loved water volleyball, pickle ball, and pétanque. She would often comment on how much she liked the friends she had made here.

Sharon is survived by her husband, William Lee Jr.; her children Jamie Lee and Ryan Lee, her daughter-in-law, Hilary Lee; her grandchildren Hunter Lee and Mason Lee; her brothers Leroy Hunter, Larry Hunter, Dwayne Hunter, Mark Hunter, her sister, Cathy Hodsdon; and numerous cousins; nieces, and nephews.

Sharon wished to be cremated and for her friends and family to gather for a celebration of life ceremony instead of a traditional funeral service. She would love to be remembered with funny, strange, and silly stories about her life and not dwell on how sad we are that she is gone. A celebration will be planned in the spring.
