HALLOWELL – Mary Pepper Nunan, 73, passed away on Jan. 26, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family. She was born on June 25, 1949, a daughter of Herbert Stevens and Margaret (Waldorf) Tracy.

Mary was a graduate of Hall-Dale High School class of 1968. She earned a master’s degree in special education from the University of Maine. Mary enjoyed teaching and working with children very much. She took a sabbatical from teaching to be the home caretaker of her beloved husband, Robert Nunan, who predeceased her in 1999 from MS. She then returned to the classroom for several years.

Mary enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed being known as Grammie Pepper and Aunt Mary and was always known for her sense of humor and generosity.

Mary is survived by her daughters Amy Nunan, Melinda Fuller, Melonnie Kelly and her husband, Jamie; and siblings, Amy Stevens, O. Jacob Stevens and his wife Claudette, Sue Nay and her husband Robert, and Earl Stevens and his wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Lee Kelly, Katelyn Lewis, and Susan Stowe, and great-grandchildren, Autumn Lewis, Jamie Stowe, and Mason Stowe; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a brother, Owen Stevens, and her beloved cat “kitty”.

A gathering in memory of Mary will be held at a later date.
