Stephen Roy Lovley

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, Stephen Roy Lovley, 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family on Dec. 23, 2022 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1943 in Mars Hill, Maine. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962 before graduating high school and received his G.E.D. while serving. He served 6 years.

Steve recently retired from his own business, Lovley & Son Painting, in Wasilla, Alaska. He and his wife Pat settled in Florida after visiting their families in Maine last year and were just here visiting again, last summer, spending three months in Winslow at their daughter, Heidi’s home.

Dad and Pat spent the last 10 winters traveling the country during the slow painting months in Alaska. They spent a lot of time with their children in Maine, Iowa and visiting good friends in Wichita Falls, Texas, Arizona, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. My daddy sure loved to drive! He felt his best behind the wheel. Dad knew a lot of people, kept in touch, visited them often and could carry a conversation with anyone about anything. He was generous, had a commanding presence and a contagious laugh.

He was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Althea Lovley; his twin brother and best friend, Vaughn Lovley (2015), his younger brother, SP 4 Thomas Grant Lovley, who died in Vietnam, his only sister, Laura Louise Grendell; and his first granddaughter, Hope Marie Lovley.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 31 years, Patricia Lovley; his older brother Gerald Lovley and his wife, Marilyn of Tuscon, Ariz., his “Heidi Doll”, daughter, Heidi Anne Stewart and son-in- law, Michael Stewart, his son, “Heath T”, Heath Thomas Lovley and daughter-in- law, Heather M. Lovley; grandsons, Andrew Ryan Lovley, Benjamin Stewart and Luke Lovley, granddaughters Lila Hope Lovley and Lily Hope Lovley; stepsons Ray Collins, his wife, Carrie Collins and their son Josh Collins, Chris Collins, his son Christopher Wentworth and daughter Taylor Gardner, stepdaughter, Raelene Long and former son-in-law, Michael Long and their children, Joshua Long, Ashley Long and RaeAnn Long; great-grandsons, Christopher Wentworth and Alex Long.

A heartfelt Thank You to Raelene for attending to and being there with Dad and Pat in Florida during Dad’s last few weeks.

Burial will be in the spring in Waterville beside his brother Von and near his parents.

Condolences can be sent to his wife Pat Lovley, 38529 Goodland Drive, Zephyrhills, FL 33540 and/or his children, Heidi Stewart and/or Heath Lovley c/o 5 Bassett Road, Winslow, ME 04901 or shared on http://www.VeilleuxFuneralHome.com.
