Robert Lee Plourde

ST. ALBANS – Robert Lee Plourde, 82, died peacefully Jan. 31, 2023 at the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Facility, Togus. He is now at peace with his family in heaven.

Robert was born May 5, 1940, in Skowhegan, a son of Robert and Mary Jane (MacDonald) Plourde. He started school, but did not graduate, helping out on a nearby farm. Robert served with the U.S. Army in Alaska from February 1958 to February 1960. In 1964, he worked at the shoe shop in Skowhegan where he met his wife, Esther. They were married June 26, 1965, and lived in St. Albans for 60 years, raising two children, Roberta and Randy. Robert worked in construction for 28 years.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on small engine repairs in his garage, and watching his favorite church program on TV, instead of going to church, because he could not hear well. He wasn’t a person for crowds because of his hearing problem. He loved watching hummingbirds, while eating his breakfast at the kitchen table. He took pride in having his lawn looking great, mowing it two times a week. He loved his family dearly.

Robert was a “Jack of All Trades”; he said, “If God made it once, I can make it again”. He could fix anything! He liked to have everything where it was supposed to be in his garage. He was always willing to help out anyone as long as he was close to home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Esther of St. Albans; daughter, Roberta Hart and husband Royce of Detroit, son, Randy of St. Albans, stepson, Myron McNally of Pittsfield; grandchildren Cassandra, Brandy and Dylan Plourde; great-grandchildren Kolton Robert Munn and Azalea Adley Munn; sister, Leona Turcotte; a very special neighbor and friend who was like a brother, David Tozier of St. Albans.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, James and Richard Plourde.

There will not be any visiting hours or burial. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the St. Albans Union Church, Main Street, St. Albans with Pastor Leonard Reiss officiating.
