United Way of the Tri-Valley Area of Farmington plans to host a Pump Up The Jam dance party with Dreamin Big from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.

The event will be held at the Farmington Elks Lodge, 120 School St. in West Farmington.

The dance is for those 21 and older. Those who attend can make song and karaoke requests and feel free to dress up.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at uwtva.org. The cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple.

Events like this fund the work done in the community, such as:

•  The Hope Fund: This event provides funding for youth in Franklin County, Livermore and Livermore Falls to participate in enriching activities for which they may otherwise not have money to sign up, according to a news release from Nichole Ernest with the United Way chapter. These include items like summer camp, sports, lessons (skiing, horseback riding, dance, cheering), writing classes at the University of Maine at Farmington, even a 4H pig one year. The fund provides up to $200 per child per year to help children have the option for these activities.

• Packs for Progress: Each fall United Way supplies backpacks filled with school supplies to families who need them.

• Community Partners: Each year partners apply for funding to do great things in the community. Partners such as SeniorsPlus (Meals on Wheels), Literacy Volunteers, Safe Voices, Catholic Charities and Western Maine Transportation are often funded by United Way of the Tri-Valley Area.

• The Very Basics Fund: Helping organizations that focus on the basic needs of its friends and neighbors with food, fuel and shelter.

This event is sponsored by Benchmark Graphic Design Company and Dreamin Big. Updates can be found on United Way’s Facebook page. With a set capacity limit, those who plan to attend may want to reserve their spot now.
