About the series

The annual high school basketball tournament will get underway with a chunk of the action set to play out at the Augusta Civic Center.

The ACC, which was constructed in 1972, is also marking five decades of hosting the tournament. The building first hosted a state final in 1973 and then made history in 1975 when it welcomed the first girls state championship games in state history.

Our sports journalists have been busy diving into the rich history of the Augusta Civic Center. There have been a number of memorable games played at the venue over the years, and Mainers who have participated in the tournament or watched it have their share of memories, too. During the week of Feb. 13, we’ll take a look back at some of the most compelling events over a half century of the high school basketball tournament and the Augusta Civic Center.

Also, let us know what memories you have of the state tournaments at the Augusta Civic Center.
