Alfred “Freddy” Leo Nadeau

LIVE OAK, Fla. – Alfred “Freddy” Leo Nadeau, 74, of Live Oak, Fla. and Jackman, Maine, passed away on Thursday evening, Feb. 9, 2023 at his home in Florida following a brief illness.

Freddy was born in Greenville, Maine on Sept. 15, 1948 to Paul and Rose (Gauthier) Nadeau. He was raised in Jackman and resided there his whole life until he retired and traveled to Florida for the winter months.

He was a man of many talents and worked hard for his family. He started his career working in the woods from operating a skidder, delimber, logging, and truck driver. After long hours of working in the woods and not being home with his family, he became a school bus driver for Forest Hills School for 20 years. While he was a bus driver, he opened his own excavation business which is still run today by his son, Jason, and grandchildren, Blaine and Aaden.

His devoted passion was making maple syrup which was a tradition that he did as a young fellow with his grandparents and his mom. Along with his four children and wife Viola, they tapped and hauled buckets of sap to boil down to make maple syrup. His favorite part was seeing the smiles on the faces of family and friends gathering around the packed snow with the yummy taffy just waiting to dig in. He is so proud that his tradition will continue with his children and grandchildren at Fred’s Sugar Shack!

His other pastime was driving his Harley’s and Indian motorcycles. He will always be remembered driving his bike through town with his cowboy hat!!

Along with his parents, Freddy is predeceased by his sister, Brenda Nadeau of Live Oak, Fla.

He is survived by his loving companion, Gina Edwards of Live Oak, Fla. of 10 years; four wonderful children and their spouses, Donavan and his wife Terri (Riley) Nadeau of Jackman, Jennifer (Nadeau) and her husband Timothy Lacasse of Long Pond TWP, Melissa (Nadeau) and her husband Denis Carrier of Skowhegan, and Jason and his wife Carolyn (Robinson) Nadeau of Dennistown. Freddy’s pride and joy were his grandchildren Riley, Caleb, Kaitlyn, Colby, Owen, Blaine, and Aaden. He enjoyed all the times he shared with them from hunting, fishing, camping, and motorcycling. He was a great Pepere who will be greatly missed. In addition, he is survived by his two brothers Paul Jr, Monmouth and Kim, Lake City, Fla.; and many other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the summer in Jackman.

The family would like to thank Harris Funeral Home and Cremations, Live Oak, Fla. Special thanks to Gina for all the care and love she provided to our dad and to all the wonderful friends he met in Florida.
