Mary E. Decker

SKOWHEGAN – Our loving Mom and Grandmother, Mary E. Decker, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2023. Valentine’s Day, the love holiday, what a perfect day to remember her. She loved her family so much.

Mary was born on August 18, 1935 in Farmington, Maine. The daughter of Elliot and Althea Rackliffe.

She lost her Mom at a very young age and was looking forward to their reunion in heaven. What a glorious day that must have been.

At a young age Mary worked in the Corn Shop in Starks, picked beans, and helped her grandfather get firewood out with oxen. She was a very hard worker from the start. She married Erland Porter Clark, Jr. on March 27, 1954 in Starks, Maine. Together they owned and operated Clark’s TV and Appliance Store on Main Street in Madison. They also owned and rented out camps on East Pond in Smithfield, Maine for many years, the place where many family gatherings have taken place. They continued to work along side each other until our Dad’s passing in 1978.

On July 12, 1986 she married Murray Decker in Anson, Maine. They lived in Smithfield, Maine and later moved back to Madison, Maine. They enjoyed family time and many adventures, including a cross country trip to California. She was predeceased by Murray in 2009.

When we were young Mom was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She also owned Omni Christian Bookstore in Skowhegan, Maine and she was also a secretary at The Log Cabin Church. She went to college and received her Associate of Science Degree. She worked as a CNA at Redington Fairview Hospital and later she worked as a medical transcriptionist at the Belgrade Health Center for many years until her retirement. Always hardworking. She also had a great love for animals and was always bringing home the least-likely-to-be-chosen pets to love, from the animal shelter.

She is survived by her family, children Gloria (Rick) Neault of South Portland, Maine, grandchildren Christopher (Melissa) Neault, of Westbrook,Maine, great granddaughters Olivia and Charlotte. Jason (Megan) Neault of Arundel, Maine, great granddaughter Reia. Ryan (Sara) Neault of Arundel, Maine, great grandson Nolan. Pamela (Dennis) Dawes of Smithfield, Maine, grandchildren Jennifer (Dan) Frey of Smithfield, Maine, great grandchildren Jacelyn, Allie, James and Ashlynn. David (Susan) Clark of Webster, MA. grandchildren Jana (Justin) Kitchin of Jackman, Maine, great grandsons Deyon (Emily), great great grandson Cooper, Bain (Morgan). Nikole (Chris) Phillips of Groton, CT, great grandchildren Kadyn, Gabriella and Trystan. Chrisite (Ken) Hall of Alfred, Maine, great grandchildren Marlie and Porter. David, Jr (Sierra) Clark, Cornville, Maine, great grandchildren Layla and Connor. Step children Patrick (Betty) Decker, Mark (April) Taylor, grandchildren, many other nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Ted and Brenda who helped her out in many ways. Special friends Dianne Quirion and Kim Harper who our Mom loved dearly and many other family and friends. Thank you to Mom’s neighborhood friends who always showed kindness and gave a helping hand.

She was predeceased by her parents, Elliot and Althea Rackliffe, siblings, Lynn Rackliffe, Thomas Rackliffe, Gwendolyn Day, Dora Brown and Elliot (Mickey) Rackliffe, Jr.

There will be a graveside celebration of life service in the Spring followed by a gathering of family and friends.

Thank you for the excellent care given to our Mom by the nurses at Maine General.

“We love because He first loved us.” I John: 4:19
