Leon L. Weymouth

WINTHROP – Leon L. Weymouth, 83, of Winthrop died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at the Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop.

Born in Dresden, Maine on Oct. 13, 1939, the son of Ancil and Agnes (Smith) Weymouth.

Leon was a quiet man who enjoyed being with his family. His brothers and sisters, along with their children, gathered regularly on the weekends at the family home in Gardiner; sometimes for holidays, and as often, just to get together. As time went on, the gatherings included many more family members and Leon loved reminiscing about those times. He always had pictures to share and a story to tell whenever he had the chance! Leon worked at Gardiner Winery for many years along with his brothers. Later in his life, he worked at the Carleton Woolen Mill in Winthrop until retirement. Leon was very witty and will always be remembered by several nieces and nephews as the “fun” uncle who liked to joke and have fun! He was the last of ten siblings to leave this world to join all his brothers, sisters and his parents into the arms of God and Heavenly peace. He will be deeply missed by all his remaining family.

Leon was predeceased by his parents. Ancil and Agnes Weymouth, his brothers, Ralph Weymouth, Everett Weymouth, Medville Weymouth, his sisters, Harriet and her husband Guy Cheek, Jeanette Weymouth, Annette Fallon and her husband Jerry, Irene Cole and her husband Frank, Barbara Jackson and her husband Phil and Myrtle Smith, and his nephew Jerry Vintinner.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Edith Weymouth, and a brother-in-law, Blaine Smith, many nieces and nephews, including Janice Vintinner who grew up with him and was more of a sister than his niece. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and their children as well.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 11 am, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Dresden.

Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, http://www.staplesfuneralhome.com.
