Marcella “Marcie” Louise St. Thomas

WEST GARDINER – Marcella “Marcie” Louise St. Thomas, 66, of West Gardiner, died at her home with her family at her side, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, after a year-long, and courageous, battle with ALS.

Born in Augusta, Maine, on Dec. 11, 1956, Marcie was a daughter of John and Marceline Belanger Plourde. Attending local schools, Marcie was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1976. Immediately following graduation, she married the love of her life Kevin A. St. Thomas.

Marcie was a claims processor for Maine Automobile Association for many years and later worked for Cigna Insurance. Forced to leave the workforce at a younger age due to medical conditions, she never failed to be there for those that needed her and was always giving of herself.

Never an idle woman, Marcie enjoyed the outdoors, and nature. She could be found planting flowers, and making crafts. She especially loved camping in remote areas, and most of all, spending time with her family and close friends.

Throughout her trials and joys of life, Marcie held strong to her faith. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Farmingdale for nearly 40 years.

Other than her parents, Marcie was predeceased by her brother Harold Plourde, and her “adopted” mother, Mary Russell.

Marcie is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Kevin St. Thomas, of West Gardiner; her daughter, Cassandra St. Thomas MacMaster and her husband Travis, of Winthrop; her son, Vitaly A. St. Thomas and his partner Kait Drake of Union; two grandchildren, Ashley and Jacob of Winthrop, and a step-grandchild, Gavin. She is also survived by her sisters Angeline Plourde Dumont of China, Alice Plourde Casey and her husband Brian of Windsor, Judy Plourde O’Brian of China; brother Armand “Kenny” Plourde and his wife Jane of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. Lastly she is survived by her rescue dog “Mollie” who was at her side until the very end.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 4, from 1-2 p.m., with a funeral immediately following at 2 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14 Hasson Street, Farmingdale. Bishop John McNaughton, officiating.

Spring burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon, Maine.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner, Maine.
