PORTLAND — An event, Go Over the Edge with Veterans Forward, is set for Saturday, June 17, at One City Center, 36 Danforth St.

Eligible participants will rappel down the building starting at 8 a.m. to benefit Maine’s heroes — veterans, service members and their families.

Veterans Forward has a tall task for thrill seekers. Each participant will literally take fundraising to new heights by raising a minimum of $1,000 to be eligible and to support Maine’s veterans and their families, according to a news release from Veterans Forward, a program of Fedcap.

“Participating in this event and rappelling down a building takes a great deal of courage,” said Todd Crawford, event chair, Veterans Forward Board chairman, and Army and Navy veteran. “We must support our veterans by meeting the level of courage they show every day. This is obviously not something you can do every day, and we’re excited to bring such a dynamic event to Portland. The bravery it will take to rappel down One City Center is reminiscent of the courage our military members display when they serve our country.”

Veterans Forward provides critical and timely assistance to Maine’s veterans, service members and their families to create a sustainable future. By working with each veteran’s unique needs, Veterans Forward removes barriers impacting their health, safety or well-being, filling in the gaps in care often not provided by other resources.

Event registration is open online at maineveteransforward.org. Early signup is encouraged to begin fundraising campaign. Veterans Forward will provide support and instruction.
