NORRIDGEWOCK – Althea G. (Cressey) Spooner, 101, passed away Feb. 23, 2023 at her home in Norridgewock surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 9, 1921 in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Carroll B. and Lottie E. (Libby) Cressey.

She attended schools in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School class of 1939. She met Clinton Spooner in Skowhegan and married on Feb. 20, 1944 in Bingham. They were married for 57 years.

Althea moved to Skowhegan after graduating from Lewiston High School working as a nanny. She worked at McLellan’s store for 25 years as a clerk, then for 10 years as a manager.

She loved working in and maintaining her flower and vegetable gardens, walking and spending time outdoors. She traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe and India with her late husband after retirement. She also researched family genealogy.

Althea is survived by her son, Hollis “Rocky” Spooner of Norridgewock, daughter-in-law, Charlotte Spooner of Norridgewock; grandson, Michael Spooner and spouse Darcy of Skowhegan, granddaughter, Shelly Cummings and spouse Tristan of Norridgewock; great-grandchildren, Avery and Maxwell Cummings.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Spooner; and son, Danny Spooner.

There will be no visitation hours or funeral service.
