Joseph I. Blais

AUGUSTA – Joseph I. Blais, 87, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, March 13, 2023.

He was born in Augusta on Nov. 29, 1935 the son of Aristide and Alice (Poulin) Blais. Joe was educated in Augusta schools. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Prior to his retirement, Joe was the postal director for the State of Maine for 25 years.

He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a member of Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post #2 of Augusta, a life member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens, Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Past Faithful Navigator, past Purser and Past Faithful Scribe of Abnaki Assembly #346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Joe was predeceased by his parents; by a brother, Bertrand Blais, his wife, Doris and a sister, Jeannine Blais.

Surviving is a brother, Gerard Blais and his wife Patricia of Hartland, and Winter Haven, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews; as well as many neighbors and friends.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A committal service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 10 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
