WILTON — After a couple months of being down for maintenance, the town website is back to functioning order again and is maintaining the previous look and design from before an initial redesign.
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Town Manager Perry Ellsworth brought the issues of the redesign of the town website to the Wilton select board.
“Website is a mess. It can’t be fixed without spending lots of money,” Ellsworth stated to the board at that meeting. Ellsworth declared the website “out for maintenance” as he searched for possible solutions to the issues.
Redesign of the website began sometime prior to the new year, with Ellsworth mentioning in a December select board meeting that his intent was to overhaul the website and have administration for the webpage be in house by town office staff.
Jay’s website was cited as the template for how Ellsworth wanted the redesign to look, stating “If you look at Jay’s website, it’s pretty good and easy to handle and easy to add information.”
At that meeting, Selectperson Tiffany Mauri offered her input on the website, suggesting they restore the website to a state where it was previously functional and train their staff to update the information on the website themselves.
On Tuesday, March 7, Mauri and Ellsworth offered an update on those efforts.
“There’s some improvement,” Ellsworth stated, “Everything I look at it, it’s gained a little bit more.”
Mauri added, “So at this point here, we did connect with the hosting provider, we rolled back our pages to the original structural design and I updated what I knew from being in this position here.”
Mauri offered a suggestion, stating that she was willing to work directly with office staff to maintain the website moving forward.
Ellsworth stated that staff requested time with Mauri to learn more about the maintenance of the webpage.
“I think we’d like to have a couple of hours of your time,” he stated, “where you could set up with the staff upstairs and talk about what it is that they think needs to be fixed or what the priorities are that need to be fixed.”
Mauri accepted the requested, offering time on Wednesdays to help train the staff.
