Janice L. (Richards) Karczewski

AUGUSTA – Janice L. (Richards) Karczewski, 71, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at home with her loving family at her side. She is the loving wife to Scott L. Karczewski with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

Janice was born Dec. 19, 1951, in Augusta. She was the daughter of Leonard and Louise (Dostie) Richards. She was a resident of Augusta for most of her life. A graduate of Cony High School class of 1971.

Janice ran a daycare out of her home when her children were young. When they started school, Janice worked as a medical records coordinator for the Williams family who owned Gray Birch and Glenridge nursing homes. She worked for the Maine General Hospital as a clerk in the radiology department for 15 years until her retirement in 2004.

Janice enjoyed visiting her parents’ camp on Deer Isle and traveling to Florida yearly with her family. She was a member of the Kennebec Garden Club. Janice loved gardening, scrapbooking, spending time with her family, staying at their camp in Palermo, going to windjammers, trips to the coast for seafood, and loved raising her grandchildren and throwing her holiday parties. Janice was also an active member of the Hope Baptist Church in Manchester.

In addition to her loving devoted husband Scott, Janice is survived by her son, Todd Karczewski of Palermo; Tracy wing, who was considered a daughter and helped Scott up till the end; her grandchildren Dylan and future wife Star Black, Taylah, Dominic Karczewski, Regan wing and Cheyenne; her great-grandchildren Amora, Delilah, Kiara, Kaylee, and Artemis. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.

In addition to Janice’s parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Karczewski.

Janice’s visiting hours will be in the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, on Monday March 27, from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral service will be at Hope Baptist Church, 726 Western Ave, Manchester on Tuesday, March 28, at 11 a.m. There will be a reception in the Church fellowship hall immediately following services. Interment will be in the spring in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.
