WATERVILLE — Maine Film Center, located in the Paul J. Schupf Art Center at 93 Main St., is set to offer a free screening of “I Know a Man … Ashley Bryan” at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8.
This documentary tells the story of Bryan, who used art his entire life to celebrate joy, mediate the darkness of war and racism, explore the mysteries of faith, and create a loving community. Bryan became a year-round resident of the Cranberry Isles in Maine during the late 1980s, living there until his death in February 2022 at age 98, according to a news release from the film center.
Following the screening, at 2:30 p.m. there will be guided tours of the “Ashley Bryan/Paula Wilson: Take the World into Your Arms” exhibition and refreshments. Tours will be led by Carl Little, a writer and longtime colleague of Bryan, and Mirken coordinator of Campus and Community Collaboration Jillian Impastato.
The screening of is part of the Campus + Community Film Series, inspired by the exhibition. This exhibition is on view through July 31 at the Colby College Museum of Art’s Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center.
The Campus + Community Film series is a collaborative program of the Colby College Museum of Art and Maine Film Center. Films selected are related to or inspired by current exhibitions and/or works in the Colby Museum collection.
