Joan Elizabeth (Bozenhard) Adams

WASHINGTON – Joan Elizabeth (Bozenhard) Adams was blessed with a peaceful passing March 29, 2023, at home in Washington.

Joan was a soft woman who wore strong armor forged in the fires of love. Born in Denver, Colorado on July 12, 1945, to Stewart and Miriam Bozenhard, she was raised in West Springfield, Massachusetts, graduated from high school in 1963, attended Becker Junior College, Worcester, and graduated from Bay Path University in Longmeadow. She worked as an executive secretary for H.E. Harris Stamp Co., Boston, at Springfield College, and later at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

In 1966, by Divine Providence, Joan was introduced to Curtis Adams in Worcester. After a whirlwind romance the two were married and moved to Virginia.

The young wife and her husband overcame many challenges and had many adventures over 52 years, which are now the stuff of legend. God blessed and filled out their family; Joan diligently kept and managed the house while Curt, with equal diligence, provided for it. The pair kept their community safe, traveled, farmed, shared the Gospel, and nurtured their and others’ children, always together.

We could tell of her side interests: music, puzzles, model trains and such, but mere diversions pale in comparison to Joanā€™s true legacy of love and devotion she and Curt have passed to us. So many stories, so much love in open, honest faith in Jesus Christ shared freely with all who knew her. We can and should talk often of this life, by which memory will far outlive mortal bodies, and God glorified for the time we had.

Joan was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Curtis.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Stone; sons, William (Rebecca) Adams and Thomas (Donna) Adams, daughters Patricia Adams and Rebecca (Earl) Stevens; and many grandchildren by blood and spirit, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fellowship Baptist Church, 237 Eastern Ave., Augusta, will host a celebration of Joan’s life Thursday, April 6, at 1:30

p.m.

The family also wishes to express its most sincere gratitude to the first responders of Washington and Union, for their relentless kindness and professionalism, and to the always exceptional Plummer Funeral Home of Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Autism Program of the Children’s Center of Augusta, Maine.
