Kendall “Ken” B. Worthley Sr.

OAKLAND – Kendall “Ken” B. Worthley Sr., of Oakland passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta, Maine, from natural causes. He was born June 3, 1928, in Skowhegan, the son of Christine Worthley (now deceased).

Ken attended school in Fairfield, Maine. He was first employed by Diamond International in Oakland at the age of 16, where he met his wife Mildred, and they married in November of 1957. Mildred passed away in 2016.

During his years employed by Diamond International, Ken was drafted and inducted into the Army July 9, 1954, and served in Germany until his discharge May 26, 1956.

After the closing of the Diamond International Mill, he went to work for Orchard Park Apts. (formerly known as Crestwood Apts) as a custodian. From there he transferred to his longtime position as a custodian at Messalonskee High School where he thoroughly enjoyed his time with the kids. He retired from there at the age of 79 and often mentioned how he would like to go back to that job.

He lived his life enjoying his family, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and sitting outside watching the birds and animals (which he fed them all). He loved his kids and grandkids and great grandkids and would spoil them whenever he could.

He is survived by his three sons and daughter, Kendall Worthley, Jr., and wife Barbara of Oakland; Peter Worthley and his wife Nancy of Vassalboro; Lisa (Worthley) Champion and husband Doug Champion of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and David Worthley of Oakland.

He also left behind his grandchildren: Molly Worthley and Sam Worthley; Heather Worthley and Todd Worthley; and Clark Champion. He also had several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He attended Winslow Baptist Church for several years and had many close friends there. Among them was his treasured friend, David Verzoni, with whom he enjoyed many breakfasts.

A celebration of Life service will be held at the Winslow Baptist Church, Augusta Road, Winslow Maine on April 8, 2023, at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are in the care of Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church Street, Oakland, where condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at http://www.lawrybrothers.com.
