AUGUSTA – Our Angel on Earth flew up to heaven to be with his Lord and Creator on March 31, 2023.

Born on May 14, 1950 to Laurier and Patricia Fecteau, Bobby was born with PKU, a cruel disease which causes profound mental retardation within 24 hours of birth. We called him “Bobby” and cared for him with much love.

Bobby was a resident of Pineland in Pownal for 40 years until the facility closed. He then lived in a group home in Norway. This was a real home with four large bedrooms and three other residents. Here he would experience the very best of care with both prior and present staffers. Some staffers worked at Pineland and they already knew each other. Almost one year ago, Bobby was moved to Augusta, his home town, and resided at Augusta Rehabilitation Center until his recent death.

In spite of his disability, Bobby touched many lives and achieved many goals during his lifetime. He won over 50 medals at the Special Olympics Games. Throughout his life he traveled on special trips to Pine Tree Camp, Cape Elizabeth Park, Old Orchard Beach and a few trips to ride the train in North Conway, N.H.

Bobby loved music and attended many concerts and performances with the group home staff. He also loved rides in the van. In his own little world, he was a happy dude. Very much like his father, Bobby loved to make people jump and would laugh big belly laughs. We will miss his charming spirit and his beautiful soul.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Laurier and Patricia Fecteau; his sister, Donna Fecteau; his godfather, Norman Fecteau; and by both Fecteau and Doucette grandparents.

He is survived by his sister, Louise Nicholas; his nephews David and Stephen Nicholas; and a niece, Melanie Turner, her husband Lucas and their children Payson and Natalie Turner; and his godmother, Louise Fecteau of Lewiston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. Burial will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta.

My heartful gratitude to Augusta Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding, loving care of Bobby and to Constellation Hospice for the wonderful care and for all the help with moving Bobby back home to Augusta.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. Condolences, stories or photos may be shared by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com.
