Mary Ellen Foss Dube

AUGUSTA – Mary Ellen Foss Dube, 89, passed way Monday, April 3, 2023, at Market Square Health Center in South Paris. She was born in Augusta, on Feb. 25, 1934 a daughter to Florence (Leighton) Foss and Harry J. Fotakis.

Mary attended Augusta schools and worked for the State of Maine.

Mary and her late husband, Romeo loved to travel after their children had grown, creating new memories everywhere they went. Exploring the tastes, sounds, and sights of Greece had to have been among their favorite as Mary’s roots run deep in the Grecian islands. She was a wonderful baker and cook, it was through her food that she shared love and warmth with generations of family year after year. Mary’s love for art was only surpassed by that of her talent. She was a beautiful artist who enjoyed creating images of fashion, landscapes, and the innumerable expressions of womanhood. She loved to smile, to go on adventures, to be with her family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Romeo J. Dube; and two brothers, Donald Fotakis and Harry Fotakis.

Mary is survived by her three children, Mark Purty and partner Lori of York, Tom Purty and his wife Mary of Augusta, and Catherine Purty Hethcoat and her husband Scott of Auburn; four stepchildren, Timothy Dube of Mount Vernon, Glenn Dube of Norridgewock, Judy St. Hilaire of Scarborough and Nancy Jacques of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
