Stephen John Matthews

NORRIDGEWOCK – Stephen John Matthews, 58, resident of Norridgewock, Maine, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 31, 2023, at his home.

Steve was born Aug. 24, 1964, to John and Sandra Matthews of Skowhegan, Maine. After graduating from Skowhegan Area High School, Steve enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986 on a fast attack submarine. He was stationed in San Diego, Calif., and was very proud of his service for the remainder of his life.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Steve graduated from CMCC with an electromechanical degree and worked for many years for National Semiconductor in South Portland and eventually at Jardin Corporation as a highly skilled electro-mechanical engineer supporting their robotics and manufacturing processes until his retirement in August 2022. He was diverse in a variety of trades, when a friend or family needed help he was there to help with no questions asked. Steve’s favorite pastime was spending time with his second family at Bloomfields, in Skowhegan, watching his beloved New England Patriots, playing cribbage, or just hanging out with friends.

Steve’s family, including his nieces and nephews, brought him great joy. He is survived by his mother and father, Sandra and John Matthews, his sisters, Denise Statiras, her husband Botis and their son Nikolas, of Houston, Texas, Kelley Holland her husband Peter, their son Sam and daughter Annie, of Falmouth, and Jana Wacome, her husband Phil, their son Isaac, his wife Ashleigh, their daughter Nora and son Deacon and daughter Alanna and her husband Cody of Skowhegan.

Visiting hours will be held at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Avenue in Skowhegan on April 22, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., with a service will be held directly afterwards at 1:30 at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart and Edwards Funeral Home 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
