LISBON — A career expo is set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Lisbon High School gymnasium, 2 Sugg Drive.

This free event will feature dozens of local employers in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, construction, direct care and retail, and is open to all job seekers, according to a news release from Jessica Picard with the Department of Labor.

The expo is hosted by the Maine CareerCenter, Lisbon Economic and Community Development, and Lisbon High’s guidance department.

Students at the high school can also attend learning seminars in the morning and then the career fair from 9-10:30 a.m. They can talk to providers about topics like colleges, jobs in the trades, local summer jobs, military opportunities, entrepreneurial resources and technical training center.

“Lisbon, as a community, is focused on helping connect our employers and our residents in the job market,” said Ross Cunningham, Lisbon’s director of economic and community development. “We have a fantastic group of local and regional employers attending this event and we look forward to helping fill their job vacancies. Being part of a group of organizations that is hosting this event has been very rewarding and super effective.”

“Career exploration is an important component of the school counseling curriculum,” said Jill Piker, school counselor. “We are hoping the Career Expo will encourage students to think about the wide variety of resources available to them and to start planning their future career goals. It is also a unique opportunity to host local organizations and employers to offer an event open to our students and members of our community.”
