Mary Emelia (Masciadri) Santulli

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Mary Emelia (Masciadri) Santulli passed away March 31, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Augusta, to Americo Joseph Masciadri and Anna Marie Burns.

She was predeceased by her brothers Joe and Jimmy; her son-in-law, Michael Mathews; her granddaughter, Chelsea Santulli; and her husband, Ltc. John “Jack” Francis Santulli (died April 27, 1990).

Mary and Jack were married Aug. 27, 1955, and lived in numerous locations during his military career, but she always returned to her beloved hometown of Hallowell. After her husband’s death, she made a home with her son Scott and his wife, Shirley.

Mary is survived by her three children, Joni Santulli (husband Bob Ladd), of Hallowell, Scott Santulli (Shirley) of Fredericksburg, Va.; and Stephanie Mathews of Leavenworth, Kan.; her grandson, Zach (JoEllen) and daughter Maria (Mary’s great-granddaughter), of Fredericksburg, Va.; her brother, Tony Masciadri (Linda), her sisters Elizabeth Smith (Gary) and Maria Perkins (Dale); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mary adored her pets: cocker spaniel Willie, golden retriever Beau, cat Stompy, and black lab Eddy. She had many hobbies and loved going to flea markets and auctions to add items to her ever-growing collection. She was a prolific craftsperson, creating many pieces of knitting and needlework. One of her specialties was knitting newborn hats that she sent to hospitals around the country.

Mary loved the sun. On her many visits to the beaches of North Carolina and Virginia, she would spend hours sunbathing by the sea. Locally, she’d visit Aquia Landing. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and social occasions, and never failed to engage in conversation with family and friends.

By Mary’s wish, there will not be a formal memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to
