He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1960, studied Electrical Engineering at Lowell Institute of Technology and earned an BSEE from Northeastern University 1967.

Later he completed a Master of Science at University of Connecticut in 1980. His contributions to computing and technology were many: including machine design, early computerized Optical Character Recognition, bar-code scanners, early ultra-sound imaging, avionics, computer-based systems for automotive and industrial applications, all of which helped create the world we live in today.

His happiest hours were spent on Lake Maranacook where he originally grew up and frequently visited, eventually hand-building a two-story island cottage with the help of family members.

He raised his family in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and then Maine with outdoor activities most weekends with trips to Cape Cod, Cape Ann, Lake Maranacook, and Booth Bay. He spent time working on boats and vehicles as a hobby and used that time to teach his children many life skills.

Later during retirement enjoyed felling trees from his property and working to improve the family’s lake cottage. His grandchildren always brought Crawford joy, and he relished being a grandfather and showed his love through his deeds and care for others.

Visiting hours will begin 2 p.m. Saturday April 22 with a 4 p.m. service held at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd., Casco. Condolences and tributes may be shared at http://www.hallfuneralhome.net.
