Peter Blake Radsky

HALLOWELL – Peter Blake Radsky of Hallowell, passed away on April 18, 2023. He was the son of (the late) Nicholas P. and June (Blake) Radsky, having been born Sept. 9, 1946 at Augusta General Hospital.

Pete was educated in the Hallowell school system and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1964. He was especially proud for the opportunity to serve as a full-time Page in the State Legislature while attending high school. He receive a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Fifth year Pulp and Paper Certificate at the University of Maine, Orono. While at UMO, he was a Brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and an active member of the ROTC program.

Following graduation, June of 1968, Pete was commissioned as a Regular Army Officer, first to the infantry for two years and then Chemical Corps for eight years with assignments in Korea, Germany and various stateside tours. While in the military, he went on to earn his MBA from Boston University.

In the Spring of 1968, on a blind date in Boston, Mass., Pete met Mary Ann Luciano, the love of his life for the next 53 years. They married in September 1969 and together raised two wonderful daughters, Tanya Marie and Marija Nicole.

Upon resignation from his commission, at the rank of Captain, from the United States Army in 1979 he moved his family into the Blake Homestead in Hallowell. The homestead had served five generations of Blake ancestors, and his children were the sixth generation to be raised there. He then took on a labor of love in renovating the entire home, room by room, all while working at Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Plant as Head Plant Chemist until his retirement in 2005. The next five years were spent designing and creating a new kitchen for Mary. As a resident of Hallowell, he was a member of the Hallowell Planning Board and Hallowell Centennial Burial Ground Association.

Papa was a passionate family man, a devoted patriarch to his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, and hunting. He cherished his breaks “upta camp” at the Forks Plantation (aka Moxie), and he and Mary spent summers at their Cobbossee Lake camp.

Papa had many hobbies and projects. He took pride in his vegetable garden each year; chopped and split all their firewood for 43 years; built various outdoor structures; constructed exquisite handmade furniture and toys for those he loved; was an avid reader of all subjects and loved to work on brain games, math puzzles, Sudoku and Kakuro. Additionally, he and Mary were fortunate to travel across the continental USA as well as Aruba, Canada and Europe.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary; daughters Tanya Lomino (Michael) of Holden, Mass. and Marija Grange (Shannon) of Milford; sister, Judith Olson of Topsham; granddaughter, Jacquelyn Lomino of Boston, Mass., grandsons, Vincent Lomino of Philadelphia, Pa. and William and Brady Grange of Milford; sister-in-law, Kathy Frey (Frank) of Jay; two nieces, one nephew; and cousins David and Tim Radsky.

Heartfelt appreciation is extended to the caregivers at MaineGeneral Medical Center 2 West, MaineGeneral Glenridge Comfort Care Unit and MaineGeneral Hospice.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24 at 11 a.m. Celebration of Life reception following at Maple Hill Farm, 11 Inn Rd., Hallowell.
