Harm reduction health centers save lives. There has never been a fatal overdose in a harm reduction health center, anywhere in the world.
We need harm reduction health centers in Maine. There is currently a bill (L.D. 1159) in the Legislature that would authorize municipalities to allow a health center to operate. If L.D. 1159 passes, each center will be under the supervision of a medical director trained in addiction medicine and a center director trained in harm reduction strategies. Clients who have consumed substances on-site will be monitored and emergency care will be provided if necessary. All the centers will have certified recovery support specialists, case managers, and mental health providers present.
Again, there has never been a fatal overdose in a harm reduction health center. Ever. Please call your state representative and senator and ask them to vote in favor of L.D. 1159 to prevent fatal overdoses in Maine.
