AUGUSTA – James G.Tierney Sr., 90, passed away at the new Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta, on April 7, 2023. He was born on April 7, 1933 in Bath New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Mildred (Giberson) Tierney and William M. Tierney.

Jim graduated from Old Orchard Beech High School, class of 1951. He then attended Florida State University, receiving his B.S. degree in Education.

He married the love of his life, Juliette (Whittier) Tierney. They were married for 41 years. She passed in 2006.

He was raised in Old Orchard Beach and worked in the amusement park in the early years. He spent many years teaching in Elementary Ed., in both private and public schools for 17 years. He also helped run a couple of family businesses over the years.

Jim served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He attended St. Mary’s Church, and really enjoyed being in nature with his children. James was an avid reader, loved to play golf, and socialize.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Mildred Tierney, and a brother, Brian M. Tierney.

Jim Sr. is survived by his son, James G. Tierney, Jr. and wife Jane Allen-Tierney, children, Gilbert Tierney, Mary Jane Fisher, and Joyce Menges; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Committal prayers with military honors will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
