Candi Gilpatric, a Maine Natural Resource Conservation Service agricultural engineer, plans to give a presentation on pond construction and maintenance from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.
The talk will be held at the Waterford Town Office at 366 Valley Road in Waterford.
Gilpatric has 30 years of experience with the service and provides engineering assistance to the Maine’s southern counties. She will focus on how to choose a pond site by researching the hydrology and soils of the area. She will also discuss the various styles of ponds and the methods for construction, according to a news release from Chantelle Hay with the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District.
For those already with ponds, Gilpatric will discuss some helpful maintenance items to keep a pond safe and healthy.
Andy Ces from Shy Beaver Hatchery will join Gilpatric to give participants information about fish and stocking ponds.
Lunch will be provided. After lunch the day will be concluded with a walk-and-talk on site at a local pond, where Gilpatric will point out key features.
This class qualifies for three hours of Continuing Education Credit for individuals certified in erosion control practices by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (recertification). For more information, visit maine.gov.

The free is $50 a person if paid by check, or $52.00 a person if paid online, to cover fees.
