Leona “Lee” A. LaPlante

CONCORD, N.H. – Leona “Lee” A. LaPlante, born May 26, 1934, passed away on May 1, 2023, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, N.H.

Lee attended Fairfield and Smithfield schools (Central Maine) and graduated from Waterville High School in 1953. She later graduated from Seton Hall University College of Nursing in South Orange, N.J. She was employed as an R.N. in New York and New Jersey hospitals (medial centers). She was also employed at the V.A. Medical Center in East Orange, N.J. and the V.A. Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. from where she retired.

After her retirement, she volunteered for the caregiver organization, Me Casa. She was a long-standing member of the St. Catherine Parish in Manchester, N.H. She was a chair member, Religious Education teacher, and outreach volunteer in the Parish.

Besides her parents Evarest and Olia, Lee was predeceased by her siblings Romeo LaPlante and wife Audrey of Bossier City, La., Robert LaPlante and wife Julie of Waterville, Maurice LaPlante and wife Theresa of Winslow, Julie Shine and husband John of Dumont, N.J., Donald LaPlante and wife Jeanette of Norridgewock, Emelene Lachance and husband Maurice of Winslow, Phillip LaPlante of Lebanon, N.H., Ernest LaPlante of Norridgewock, Theresa Jenesse and husband Robert of Hermitage, Tenn., James LaPlante of Modesto, Calif., and Lucille LaPlante; as well as nieces Kathleen Frazer, Ramona Lathom, Jolene Marsters, Anna Shepard, Diane LaPlante, and Maureen Shine, and nephews William LaPlante and Michael LaPlante; and cherished friend, William T. Halloran.

She is survived by siblings Emile LaPlante of Norwich, Conn., Paul LaPlante and wife Wanda of Lonsdale, Ark., Jeanine Sutherland of Colorado Springs, Colo., Thomas LaPlante and wife Carole of Clinton; her in-laws Sandy LaPlante of Modesto, Calif., and Jacqueline LaPlante of Lebanon, N.H.; cousins; many nieces and nephews; and cherished friends.

Visiting hours will be held at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville on Friday, May 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Notre Dame, 116 Silver St., Waterville at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 6. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass at Gallant Funeral Home from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Francis in the family plot.
