Lorraine E. Murphy

HALLOWELL – Lorraine E. Murphy, 94, passed away April 30, 2023, at her residence at the Cotton Mill Apartments in Hallowell. She was born July 10, 1928, a daughter of Harold and Beulah (Plummer) Peterson.

Lorraine grew up in Brunswick and attended local schools. As a young woman, she raised seven daughters while working at the same time. For several years, she worked as a waitress at Augusta House of Pancakes and would frequently walk to work from Hallowell.

Lorraine was proud to be the daughter of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Army and enjoyed traveling to Seattle to visit her father. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. A long-time resident of the Cotton Mill Apartments, Lorraine was a past President of the organization and coordinated activities and events enjoyed by the residents.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Crockett, and a great grandchild, Ashley Rideout.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Welsh-Force, Gail Leavitt and her husband George, Diane Boucher, Barbara Gagnon and her husband Jeff, Susan Moulton and her husband Craig, Beth Kohler and her husband John, and Sherry McArthur; grandchildren, Becca McKee and her husband Kyle, Julie Peacock and her husband Scott, Lori Markham and her husband Andrew, Alex Cayse, Melissa Weston, Felicia McArthur, and Chris McArthur; great grandchildren, Jeffrey Crockett II, Libby Crockett, Samantha Dyer, Logan Peacock, Emily Peacock, Zachary Markham, Nick Markham, Abigayle Weston, Jakeb Weston, and Jace McArthur; and great great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Lorraine’s caregivers Angi, Libby, Jeannine, Jackie, April, and Michelle, along with nurse Jake of MaineGeneral Hospice and Dr. Schiff-Slater for their attentive care.
