WATERVILLE — Motorists driving near Colby College this weekend should expect to encounter traffic disruptions as the Waterville college holds its graduation ceremony and other events.

Parts of Mayflower Hill Drive will be closed to traffic, which might be rerouted onto Mount Merici Avenue.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, Mayflower Hill Drive, near the construction site for the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, will be closed to traffic for a fireworks display.

On Sunday, which is graduation day, the section of Mayflower Hill Drive that runs through the Colby campus will be closed to traffic from 9:30 a.m. to noon. There will be hundreds of people at that time crossing the road in front of Miller Library.

Drivers approaching Colby from the south Sunday will be asked by security officers to turn around. Those motorists will have the option of turning onto Mount Merici Avenue, which the college warns might cause more traffic in that neighborhood.

Colby will have security officers posted at all closures through the weekend to manage traffic and redirect drivers, but officials say emergency vehicles will be accommodated.
