Girl Scouts of Maine hosted nearly 200 guests at the organization’s annual celebration May 13 at Messalonskee Performing Arts in Oakland, honoring Girl Scouts, and volunteers for their noteworthy achievements.

Each spring, the event recognizes Silver and Gold Award Girl Scouts, graduating ambassadors, scholarship awardees and exceptional volunteers. Highest awards are given to girls who complete community-based take action projects that address relevant issues they feel passionately about, in a sustainable way, according to a news release from Helen Ruhlin with Girl Scouts of Maine.

At this year’s celebration, themed Dream, Achieve, and Inspire, seven Girl Scouts received the Gold Award, the highest honor earned by high school level Girl Scouts. Their projects sought to confront a range of challenges including distracted driving, clothing access, disadvantaged youth and protection of native species.

Gold Award Girl Scouts included Mikaela Spooner of New Sweden, Ayla Clark of Biddeford, Charlena Lavallee of Gray, Kimberley Spears of Sidney, Olivia Marion of West Baldwin, Mackinna Campbell of Westbrook and Kasey Jordan of Lamoine.

Twelve middle school-aged Girls Scouts earned their Silver Award. This year’s Silver Award projects tackled community issues such as eco-friendly plastic alternatives, animal activism and veteran grave preservation.

Silver Award Girl Scouts included Meghan Case of Casco, Winter Williams of Saco, Molly Gerding of Falmouth, Katie Griffin of Pembroke, Erin Morrison of Kennebunk, Lily Downing of Kennebunk, Libby Towne of Arundel, Rebecca Horton of Springvale, Allison Horton of Springvale, Harmony Withee of Rockland, Lorelei Young of Washington, and Morgan Erickson of Thomaston.
