FARMINGTON — A Carrabassett Valley teenager was injured Thursday afternoon after he fell asleep while driving and his vehicle went off state Route 27 and rolled over near Cowen Hill Road, police Chief Kenneth Charles said in a news release.

The crash closed the road for about an hour.

Tyler McGarry, 17, who was alone driving a 2012 Honda Pilot north on the road, also known as New Vineyard Road, when the crash occurred about 4:52 p.m. The vehicle ended up on its side.

McGarry who was trapped in the vehicle suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Charles wrote.

He was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Farmington Fire Rescue Department used struts and airbags to stabilize the vehicle to enable them to extricate McGarry. NorthStar EMS ambulance assisted at the scene.
