HALLOWELL – Christy E. McKeen passed away on May 20, 2023, in the loving arms of her ‘favorite’ brother. Christy fought a hard 8-month battle with leukemia. Christy was born July 20, 1963 in Bangor, Maine. She grew up in Sandy Point, Maine. She graduated from Searsport High School and Husson College. Christy was one of a kind. If you met Christy, you didn’t forget her. She always had a big smile and was so positive about everything in life. When that mischievous grin was on her face, we knew someone was in for some playful trouble. She brought energy and fun to any gathering. Christy enjoyed reading, hiking, biking, snowshoeing and driving her purple jeep. She worked hard, played harder, was incredibly generous and always willing to help anybody and any animal that crossed her path. Christy worked at different agencies for the State of Maine throughout her career. Her most recent job was with the Maine State Lottery as a Field Rep. She loved her co-workers and really enjoyed going into the many stores to talk with the employees and check out their newest products. Christy also worked for the United States Postal Service as an ARC on her days off from the State. Even though Christy worked six days a week, she always found time for the most important things in her life – family, friends and her fur babies.

Christy leaves behind her four fur babies – Midnight, Sophie, Callie and Luca. She also leaves behind her mother, Elizabeth McKeen, of Stockton Springs; her brother, James W. McKeen, and his wife, Linda, whom she considered her sister; three sisters – Cathy McKeen and her partner, Arthur Warman of Winterport; Carol Tenney and her husband, Brian, of Guilford; and Colleen Barnes and her husband, Dave, of Blakeslee, Pa. Christy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom she loved very dearly.

Christy was predeceased by her father, James A. McKeen, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Christy had many special friends who helped her through the last eight difficult months – Mark Perkins, Joan Foster, Anne Carter, Beth and Tim Poulin, and many others. The nurses and doctors at Maine Health Cancer Care in South Portland also took loving care of Christy the past eight months. She appreciated everything they did to make her comfortable during her illness.

A graveside service will be held at the Sandy Point Cemetery on Route 1 in Sandy Point on June 10, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. A celebration of life will be held sometime in July around the time of her 60th birthday in the Hallowell/Augusta area where she lived and worked.

Donations may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pethaven Ln.,

Augusta, Maine 04330

in Christy’s memory.
