AUGUSTA – Edward J. Bonenfant, 71, also known as “Bear” passed away peacefully early Friday morning, April 14, 2023, at Maine General Hospital from congestive heart failure.

Edward was born in Augusta on Friday, Feb. 13, 1952, the son of Robert and Yvette Bechard Bonenfant. Edward graduated from Cony High School, class of 1971.

He was employed by the family-owned clothing store, J.B. Farrells, on Water Street in downtown Augusta until he joined the Pipe Fitters Union #6 in Boston, Mass., retiring from an early stroke.

Edward married Carla Lund on Oct. 25, 1996, and his family went from one son, Edward Jr., to twin stepdaughters, Amber and Alicia Lund, and a stepson, Derek Lund.

Edward enjoyed golfing at the Natanis Golf Course, playing cards, and spoiling his newly acquired family, and later on, his twin granddaughters Avery and Vivian Lund.

Edward was predeceased by his parents Robert E. Bonenfaht Sr. and Yvette (Bechard) Bonenfant; his wife, Carla Lund Bonenfant; his brother, Robert E. Bonenfant Jr.; and a niece, Jacqueline Bolduc.

Edward is survived by his son, Edward Bonenfant, Jr., his stepchildren Derick Lund and his companion Katie Stevens, Alicia Lund and her partner Joseph Lewis, Amber Lund and her partner Kevin; five sisters, Donna Bonenfant of Augusta, Jean Ward and her partner Steve Bailey of Farmingdale, Joan Cormier and her husband, Richard of Augusta, Gloria Pelletier of Augusta and Susan Lettre and her husband Mike of Palermo; and several cousins; nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Donna Hanson of Florida.

A committal service will be held on Friday, June 9 at 1 p.m. at the old Saint Augustine Cemetery on Townsend Road in Augusta. Carla Bonenfant, his deceased wife, who passed March 6, 2022 will also be buried on the same day, time, and place.
