Melvina “Inky” L. Davis

MADISON – Melvina “Inky” L. Davis, 87, passed away on May 29, 2023 at Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 29, 1936 in Anson, the daughter of Thomas and Susie (Kral) Labun. She graduated from Madison Area Memorial High School in 1954. She married Roland Davis Nov. 25, 1956. They were married for 63 years until Dad passed away April 8, 2020.

She worked many years as a waitress and bookkeeper in the family business, The Oasis Restaurant, in Madison. Later she worked as a cook at Maplecrest Living Center then became head of the Dietary Department, retiring from that position.

She is survived by daughters Maureen Doyon and husband Yvon, Donna Davis, and son, Dayson Davis and wife Robin; granddaughters Danielle Doyon and companion Josh Ellis, Delancy Lindquist and husband David, Ravin Davis and fiancé Benjamin Bussiere, grandson, Brett Doyon and wife Ashley; great-grandsons Landon Doyon and Byron Lindquist; her beloved cat “Lucy Lu”.; and several cousins; nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Roland; daughter, Darlene; great-grandson, Camden Doyon; sister, Mary Dwelley and brothers Thomas and John Labun.

Ma was a wonderful cook and we will all miss her special dishes – Walnut Rolls, Cabbage Rolls, Dynamites, Red Velvet Cake, Graham Cracker Pie, Carrot Cake, “Sunday soup/Grampy’s soup”, and Halusky. She loved sharing her recipes with anyone who asked, writing them out by hand. While we often wondered if she left out an ingredient or two or left out an important step because for some reason our version of her recipes didn’t taste as good as hers.

Ma enjoyed getting her hair done every Friday at the Cut and Curl Shop with Cheryl Bess. There was a group of the same ladies that went at the same time every Friday. They would order lunch and enjoyed many hours of socializing together, telling jokes and playing jokes on each other. Ma was a jokester! They were life-long friends.

Every morning she enjoyed a good HOT cup of coffee, reading the morning paper, doing the word Jumble and looking over the grocery sales flyer. She would review the flyers and plan her menus around what was on sale.

She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

A special thank you to Dr. Gina Gomez and the nurses at Redington-Fairview Hospital for all their supportive care provided to our mother during her final days at the hospital. We would also like to thank Dr. Oto Prokop and his staff for their many years of care. Thank you to the Anson-Madison Ambulance and the Redington-Fairview Ambulance for the many transports and care they provided.

A Catholic church service will be held July 1 at 11 a.m. at the St. Sebastian Church in Madison with a burial at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Rd. Skowhegan ME 04976.
