Helen G. Erickson

SKOWHEGAN – Helen G. Erickson, 92, of Skowhegan, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Norridgewock.

She was born on June 4, 1931, in Skowhegan, daughter of the late William H. and Elize M. (Thibault) Lanctot. She was educated in Skowhegan at the Catholic school and the local Skowhegan school system.

She married Lewis Butler in 1949. Together they raised four children. They built and ran several businesses together. These businesses included Butler’s Motel, Butler’s Real Estate, home remodeling and new construction, and Butler’s Laundromat. Lewis died suddenly in 1977. Helen loved owning and operating the laundromat. She enjoyed interacting and assisting all the customers with their needs, even meeting her husbands Vernard Hilton and Leo Erickson there.

During retirement she enjoyed gardening, reading, taking trips to northern Maine looking for moose, embroidery, and wintering in Homosassa Springs, Fla. She loved going to flea markets and could be seen there with her own tables at times. Helen and Leo always looked forward to the many hunter’s breakfasts in the fall. Helen enjoyed family dropping in to visit, and you could always see the sparkle in her eyes when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren appeared.

Helen is survived by her sons Dennis Butler and his wife Mary of New Port Richey, Fla. and Maine, Philip Butler and his wife Lynn of Salisbury, N.C., by her two daughters, Diane Quirion and her husband Bruce of Norridgewock and Karen Demo of Skowhegan; as well as a brother, Richard Lanctot of Alabama; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings Phildora Lapointe, Flavie Swain, Felix Lanctot, twins John and Jimmy Lanctot. Helen was also predeceased by her husbands Lewis Butler, Vernard Hilton, and Leo Erickson.

Per Helen’s wishes there will not be any funeral services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. To leave a condolence for the family and to view the online obituary, please visit http://www.gibersonfuneralhome.com
