The “altercation” at Gardiner Area High School on Friday, June 2, that concerned a dispute over Gay Pride and Trump flags must remind us of the different meaning of the flags. The Gay Pride flag symbolizes, simply, that we are all equal. The Trump flag, judging from the comments and behaviors of the former president, is a flag of hate.
Trump has publicly ridiculed disabled persons, called for his opponents to be beaten up, incited racism and anti-Semitism, and encouraged anti-immigrant violence. His flag has no place in civil society, let alone in Gardiner Area High School.
