KINGFIELD — Maine School Administrative 58 residents voted Tuesday to approve a $11.5 million budget, 150-72.

Residents in all four district towns passed the budget: Avon, 20-7; Strong, 51-23; Phillips, 41-28; and Kingfield, 38-14.

The biggest increase in the budget is the return of eight teaching positions and a half-time nurse position from the final federal grant from the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, Superintendent Todd Sanders said previously.

The grant was provided to schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The positions accounted for more than $600,000 of the budget increase, he said. The budget allows the district to maintain the current staffing and programming.

The sum of $30,000 was cut from the proposed budget at the districtwide vote. It was due to changing from a full-time food service director to a contracted service.

The 2023-24 budget goes into effect July 1. It is about $1.4 million more than this fiscal year.
