WEST GARDINER — A Newport woman has been arrested on drug trafficking charges after Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a report of suspicious activity on Pond Road.

Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, finding that Lisa M. Demers, 54 of Newport, had broken a window in a home, according to a sheriff’s office news release issued Friday.

Authorities did not provide the specific street address of the impacted home on the three-mile road that runs roughly parallel to Interstate 95.

Demers, the release states, admitted to recently smoking methamphetamine and had driven to that home from Newport.

After searching the vehicle, deputies found and seized more than 56 grams of methamphetamine, 12 grams of liquid fentanyl, 706 grams of packaged fentanyl, 12 grams of cocaine and 14 grams of cocaine hydrochloride.

Demers was arrested on three charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, violating conditions of release and operating after suspension. She was taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta, where she was initially held without bail.
