Wyatt Young and Rowdey Jordan hit RBI singles in the bottom of the 10th inning Sunday night to lift the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to a 4-3 Eastern League win over the Portland Sea Dogs in Binghamton, New York.

Tyler Dearden singled home automatic runner Elih Marrero in the top of the 10th to give Portland a 3-2 lead. But Branden Fryman reach on an error in the bottom half and eventually scored the winning run on a close play at the plate, as Marrero was unable to hold on to Ceddanne Rafaela’s throw from center field after Jordan’s single.

Niko Kavadas hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Sea Dogs, who fell back to 1 1/2 games behind Somerset in the Northeast Division.

NECBL: The Sanford Mainers were held to five hits in an 8-3 loss to the Vermont Mountaineers at Montpelier, Vermont.

Logan Poteet and Cody Bowker each had two hits for the Mainers. Poteet hit an RBI single in the first inning, and Bowker doubled and scored in the ninth.

BASKETBALL

WNBA: Breanna Stewart rebounded from one of the worst games of her career with a stellar effort, scoring 28 points to go with 14 rebounds and seven assists as she lifted the New York Liberty to an 89-71 win Sunday over the Phoenix Mercury, who were playing without injured stars Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi.

Griner missed her second straight game because of a hip injury she suffered against Seattle on Tuesday. Taurasi has a hamstring injury.

New York had its own injury issues, with Sabrina Ionescu missing her second straight game because of a hamstring injury. Even without Ionescu, the Liberty (7-3) had more than enough to handle the Mercury (2-8).

• Elena Delle Donne scored 20 points, Brittney Sykes added 16 points and three steals, and the Washington Mystics beat the visiting Chicago Sky, 77-69.

• Allisha Gray scored 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, Rhyne Howard added 21 points, and the Atlanta Dream beat the visiting Indiana Fever, 100-94.

• DeWanna Bonner had 20 points and nine rebounds, Alyssa Thomas added 16 points, 12 assists and five steals, and the visiting Connecticut Sun beat the Los Angeles Sparks, 83-74.

GOLF

LPGA: Leona Maguire played her final six holes in 6 under and shot an 8-under 64 in Belmont, Michigan, to win the Meijer LPGA Classic by two strokes – her second tour victory.

Maguire made six birdies and an eagle in her bogey-free round to finish at 21-under 267. She caught playing partner Ariya Jutanugarn with an eagle on the par-5 14th hole to reach 18 under, then closed with three straight birdies to pull ahead of Jutanugarn and Xiyu Lin.

Jutanugarn shot her second straight 66 and finished alone in second.

INDYCAR: Alex Palou built on his commanding lead in the points standings by winning at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for his third title in the last four events.

Palou won for Chip Ganassi Racing by 4.5610 seconds over Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who won at Road America last year. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward was third, followed by Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta.

It was the 250th overall team win for Chip Ganassi Racing.

FORMULA ONE: Max Verstappen tied the late Ayrton Senna for career victories and Red Bull won its 100th Formula One race as the Dutchman extended his season-long dominance b winning the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Verstappen won for the sixth time this season – the fourth in a row – and Red Bull remained a perfect 8 for 8 this year. The victory for the two-time reigning world champion was the 41st of his career, which ties the 25-year-old with Senna for fifth overall.

BASEBALL: Hurston Waldrep struck out 12 in six innings, and Florida homered three times to break its single-season record in a 5-4 victory over Oral Roberts in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Gators (52-15) will play Wednesday against the winner of a Tuesday elimination game between Oral Roberts (52-13) and TCU (43-23), which eliminated Virginia earlier Sunday with a 4-3 victory. Florida would have two chances, if needed, to get the one win that would send it to the best-of-three finals beginning Saturday.

SOCCER

NATIONS LEAGUE: Unai Simon saved two shots in a penalty shootout to help Spain break an 11-year trophy drought by beating Croatia after a tense Nations League final had finished 0-0 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Simon used his feet to save a penalty by Lovro Majer when the shootout was level at 3-3 and then dived full-length to tip Bruno Petković’s spot kick around the post.

STUTTGART OPEN: There will be two American men’s tennis players ranked in the top 10 for the first time in more than a decade after Frances Tiafoe beat Jan-Lennard Struff to win in Germany for his first grass-court title.

Tiafoe won 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (8) after saving a match point in the deciding tiebreaker and will move up to a career-high ranking of 10th on Monday.

Along with Taylor Fritz in eighth, the U.S. has two men in the top 10 for the first time since Mardy Fish and John Isner were ninth and 10th in May 2012, the ATP tour said.

NOTTINGHAM OPEN: Katie Boulter won the first all-British final on the WTA Tour in 46 years and secured her first career title by beating Jodie Burrage, 6-3, 6-3, in Nottingham, England.

LIBEMA OPEN: Ekaterina Alexandrova successfully defended her title with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory against fellow Russian and top seed Veronika Kudermetova in Den Bosch, Netherlands, prevailing in a near three-hour match that also had several rain delays.
