Joseph “Roy” Gallant Jr.

POLAND – Joseph “Roy” Gallant Jr., 73, died at home with his beloved wife and family by his side on June 17, 2023.

He was born July 13, 1949, a son of Joseph R. Gallant Sr. and Lorraine A. (McCarthy) Gallant. Roy graduated from Madison High School in the class of 1967. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he met his future wife, April Hendricks. They were married for 47 years.

Roy served in the Maine State Police for 20 years and was a Forensic Firearms Detective. He was president of his State Police graduating class and then later in his career was president of the Maine State Troopers Association. He was voted the Legendary Trooper of the Year in 2022. Roy was also the recipient of the Colonel’s Award, granted by the Game Warden Service in recognition of his expertise in ballistics.

He was a Mason in the Masonic Lodge of Wilton from 1979 to present. In addition, he served on the State Police Masonic Degree Team for many years.

Roy attended Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Lakeland, Fla. and in recent years took part in Rick Stiles Sunday School at the Plant City Church in Florida.

In addition to his career achievements and affiliations, Roy was a devoted husband and dedicated father; a true family man. He was a Boston sports fan, and enjoyed cheering on the Patriots and annual weekend trips with “the guys” to the Red Sox games. He was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, and trips to hunting camp.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a son-in-law, Seth Gosselin.

He is survived by the true loves of his life, his wife and children, April Gallant; Jeff Gallant and wife Mindy, Andrea Gallant and Rob LaRose, Alicia White and husband Rob, and Erica Gosselin; grandchildren, Tyler Gallant and wife Lauren, Taylor Gallant and husband Cord, Clayton, Johnathan, RJ, Benjamin, Eden, and Joy; and a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 23 at 1 p.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 175 Main St., Madison, ME 04950. Following Mass, a celebration will be held at the Daughter’s of Isabella Hall.
