Theodore E. Wood

SKOWHEGAN – Theodore E. Wood, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away on June 16, 2023.

Ted “Tito” leaves behind a legacy of stories that will forever be held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Keeping his memory alive for years to come as the stories continue to be shared.

Born Nov. 3, 1930 in Athens, to parents Fred and Bernice Wood, Ted attended local schools and developed a love for the outdoors. He enlisted in the Army in November of 1948 and began his career as an engineer at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. Ted was honorably discharged as a sergeant and returned home to Maine in August of 1952.

While raising his family Ted worked many odd jobs and put his love for the outdoors to work by becoming a registered Maine State Guide. He was a long time member of the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Club and eventually made a career out of working at the local shoe shops, retiring from Dexter Shoe in March of 1996.

Throughout his life Ted made it a point to live his days to the fullest. Many years of hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. Anyone who knew him could feel his passion for fun and laughter. You may not have had the same quick whittednes, sense of humor or enjoyed having a drink in your hand as much as he did, but that didn’t matter to Ted. He always accepted people for who they were.

Ted was predeceased by his parents Fred and Bernice Wood; sister, Florence Wood, brother, Dick Wood and wife Lorraine; in-laws Alfred and Marie Bowman; brothers-in-law Niles, Wayne and Gary Bowman; daughter, Laurie Marie Wood; granddaughter, Amy Cardwell and dear friends Donald Bowman, Sr. and Bob and Thelma Jewell.

The list of friends and family is extensive, but a special thanks is given to: David Blodgett, Sr., Jay Libby, Sandra White, Ken Ketchum, Janie Libby, Sharon Veilleux, Mark Blanchet, Brian Annis, Nyla York and Bill and Marlene Jewell.

By request of Ted and Linda, there will be no funeral services. Please gather with your family and friends, share memories and raise a glass in memory of Ted. He will be sitting in his tree stand in heaven, sipping on Wild Turkey right along with you.
