Wayne Dunphy

CORINNA / DANFORTH – Wayne Dunphy, 84, passed away peacefully at Sebasticook Valley Hospital June 25, 2023 with his family by his side.

Wayne was born in Weston Sept. 21, 1938, a son of Francis and Pauline (Knowlton) Dunphy. Wayne attended schools in Danforth and Vanceboro in his younger years. They moved to Hartford, Conn., where he graduated from Hartford High School and attended business college there.

He worked at the Aetna Insurance Company for a number of years where he met and married his wife of 62 years, the former Geraldine Fish from Brookton. They moved back to Maine shortly after where he worked for several well-known construction companies until his retirement.

He and his wife also opened a small shop in Corinna and ran it together for over 30 years. It was well known for its lawn ornaments, whirligigs and used furniture. Wayne enjoyed all of the people he met and friends he made in their business. The people came back year after year. The family always said, “He knew people from everywhere and if he didn’t know them personally, he knew someone who did.” His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved hearing “Papa’s stories”.

Wayne was predeceased by four sisters, Vesta Matos, Lois Brown, Ellen Brewer, and Mavis Potter, two brothers, Francis Dunphy, Jr., and Kenneth Dunphy. He was also predeceased by a son, Todd Dunphy.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by one daughter, Cindy and husband Rob Perkins; one special granddaughter, Olivia Haynes, fiancé Travis Porter, and special great-grandson, Dustin Porter; grandson, Tyler Perkins and wife Heather, great-grandson, Tyler Kimball; grandson, Camden Perkins and wife Josie; several nieces and nephews including special nephew, Billy Potter; and long-time family friend, Michael Haynes.

Graveside committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 10 at the Corinna Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby and Neal.
