SKOWHEGAN — The Bloomfield Garden Club’s Gazebo Garden project in historic Coburn Park on Water Street is nearing completion. The garden club utilized a $1,000 Plant America Grant from the National Garden Clubs, Inc., donations from the Skowhegan Rotary Club, Skowhegan Woman’s Club, and garden club donation to fund the project.

The Coburn Park Commission has supported the effort by funding the gazebo skirting and crushed stone drip zone. Several local businesses supported this project every step of the way giving meaning to the slogan, “Shop local and we all benefit.” Lynch Landscaping donated yards of super loam and mulch. Hammond Lumber Company assisted in securing new landscaping cobble stones for the edging, according to a news release from Pamela Partridge with the project.

Nearly 150 hours of volunteer time valued at $3,000 have been donated by interested citizens thus far. The project will be complete when a sign highlighting the project and plant identification signs are installed. The garden club also plans to plant some fall mums and spring bulbs.

The Bloomfield Garden Club hopes that community members visit the park and enjoy the newly refurbished gazebo gardens.
